In-House Player Draft Guidelines

 

The goal of the in-house player draft is to divide the talent as equitably as possible.

 

 

Special Requests/Considerations

1.  A “special request” list will be handed out to all coaches before the draft. This will contain requests to play for specific coaches, friends, neighbors, and siblings. MYBI guarantees only siblings will be assigned to a team together. Other requests will be met as best as possible by the coaches drafting ….no guarantees.

 

2.  At the younger age levels with boys and girls enrolled, MYBI requests that 2 or more girls should be assigned to a team and try to avoid having 1 girl assigned to a team. Coaches should be aware when drafting that they may need to address this…..no guarantees.

 

3.  At the levels that span multiple grades (3rd/4th – 5th/6th – 8th/9th/10th)), MYBI requests that coaches attempt to select multiple players from each grade level. For example, a 3rd/4th-grade team has a 13-player roster, there should be at a minimum 2-3 kids of the minority grade level. Try not to have one 3rd grader with twelve 4th graders or one 4th grader with twelve 3rd graders … Coaches should be aware when drafting that they may need to address this…no guarantees.  Remember that at this age, one year is an eternity.

 

4.  There is a limit of 2 total assigned coaches (1 head – 1 assistant) per team. If you have a 2nd asst. coach or team manager, you must try and draft his son/daughter. No Exceptions.

 

Player Rankings/Selection

 

1.  Draft order is determined by a random draw. Round 1 will draft 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10….Round 2 will draft 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1….Round 3 will draft 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10…etc.

 

2.  Players are ranked 1 to 999 depending on the number of players, 1 being the highest rated. All coaches will receive a list of these players at the draft that must be turned in at the end of the draft.

 

3.  Players are blocked into groups of players depending on the number of teams. Ex. In a 10-team league ranked players 1 – 10 are in Group 1. Ranked players 11 – 20 are in Group 2. Ranked players 21 – 30 are in Group 3 etc.

 

4.  If coaches (head & assistant) for a team have 2 players in Group 1, then they do not draft in rounds 1 or 2.

 

5.  Coaches’ children must be taken in the round/group that they fall into. Ex. 10 team league. Jimmy is ranked #3 overall (group 1). His dad/head coach MUST take him in the 1st  round. Lisa is ranked #25 overall (group3). Her dad/asst. coach MUST take her in the 3rd round (or sooner…but there is no reason to do this).

 

6.  Coaches can select players that are ranked in a lower group to satisfy a special need or to just select that specific player with the belief that the player is better than his/her ranking..

 

7.  Players who are unable to attend evaluations due to illness or extraordinary circumstances will be ranked prior to the draft based on prior year’s ability based on the coaches’ knowledge of these players. A NUMBER ONLY (no name) at the end of the ranking list will represent players that were not evaluated and/or ranked. Coaches will know the names of the players not rated but will not know which number is associated with the player until the draft is completed. This should eliminate any unfair knowledge of unevaluated players. These numbers can be selected at any time during the draft. However, the coach will not find out the players name until the end of the draft.

 

8.  Any player that registers after the draft will be assigned to the team that needs additional players (due to players dropping out) or was to select next when the draft ended. That team will have the right of first refusal. If all other teams pass on the player, then the team that was to select next in the draft MUST take the player. MYBI will attempt to accommodate players who register late but do not guarantee that the player will be placed on a roster.

 

9.  IMMEDIATELY after the draft has been completed, coaches will be allowed to swap players with others teams to help satisfy special requests, 2nd asst. coach, team manager, etc. that may have been overlooked in the regular draft. ALL of these moves MUST BE APPROVED by the in-house director or in-house level director and must be completed AT THE DRAFT, NOT 2-3 days later after coaches have started calling their players.

 

10.               In circumstances that arise in the days after the draft where parents/players call and do not want to play for a certain team the in-house director may attempt to accommodate the request by moving a player to a different team. Please remember that at this point the teams have been divided as evenly as possible. All coaches have subsequently started the process of calling their players and notifying them of their new teammates. The request to switch teams can only be satisfied if it does not cause disparity in talent, create undue hard feelings for other player(s) being switched and is seemingly in the best interests of the league. In some cases there may be NO WAY to fairly accommodate the request. In any case the in-house directors’ decision is FINAL.
